My family instilled in me a great sense of comfort, togetherness, and openness as I was growing up. Whether it was family vacations, baking cookies, making dinner, playing games, or more everyday tasks, we would often do things together. We always had a camera around, but inevitably someone would be behind it and not in the frame. This is why I love to photograph families - I love to be able to capture moments between them like those I cherish from my own childhood. It is always an honor to spend time with a family and be able to give them something I hope they will treasure for generations.
Currently, I am working on a personal project to photograph elderly people in their everyday lives. It started with my own grandmother, who I have photographed doing simple things she is known for in our family, such as baking chocolate chip cookies. I have recently been trying to record some of her life stories as well and am working on a way to integrate the two. Always having been a fan of storytelling, I especially love getting to know elderly people. With all of their years of life experience they always seem to have the most amazing stories to tell. If you have someone you would like to suggest for this project, please complete the form below or send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
A little more about me...I was born and raised in California in a close knit family. We would go on camping adventures every year to places both majestic (Yosemite, Grand Tetons, Yellowstone, Zion, etc.) and places closer to home. I still have a great love of travel, whether to far away places or just a quick getaway. There's nothing better than a trip out of town to unplug and recharge. A few of my favorite things: strong coffee in the morning; my husband - Bret Hartman, fellow photographer and constant inspiration; Sir Fergus Lovington - our basset hound; Buddy - our cat who truly deserves a better name; summer trips to Lake Tahoe; weekend getaways; hiking in forests; delicate leaves on trees; belly laughs; dinner parties; mom's cinnamon streusal cake; summer bbq's; and, the smell of jasmine in the Spring.
